Academic competitions for schools and colleges Several colleges and departments of the University of Oxford run competitions which are open to students from schools and colleges. Preparing an entry for one of these competitions is a valuable experience for academically motivated students, so please do encourage your students to enter.

The Holocaust Remembrance Project invites high school students to write an essay to “analyze why it is vital that the remembrance, history, and lessons of the Holocaust be passed to new generations; and suggest what you, as students, can do to combat and prevent prejudice, discrimination and violence in our world today.” Students can win.

High School Essay Contest. The PLATO High School Essay Contest awards will be given to the best philosophical essays written by high school students, in response to the year’s contest essay question. Founded in 2011 by the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at UT-Austin, the Latino History Essay Competition has found a new home with UIL Academics beginning with the 2012-2013 school year. Last quarter, we, the Community Outreach Team, successfully completed our first project: a high school essay contest. Interested high school students wrote and submitted a 500-750 word essay about how they wish to incorporate biology into their future, and each essay was evaluated based on creativity, content, and presentation.
